Low-Level Radiation Seen in Tuna

Low levels of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear power plant have been detected in tuna caught off the coast of California, researchers reported on Monday.

The fish would have been young and living in waters near Japan at the time of the accident last year, judging by their size and known migration patterns, Reuters reports.

“It’s become clear that some people feel that any amount of radioactivity, in their minds, is bad and they’d like to avoid it,” Reuters quotes Madigan as saying. “But compared to what’s there naturally … and what’s established as safety limits, it’s not a large amount at all.”
