Few in Hollywood pull out of Barbara Walter’s interviews, especially when they have an upcoming project. But Lindsay Lohan’s new PR representatives Rogers & Cowan confirmed tonight that the actress will not be appearing on ABC’s 20/20. Lohan was scheduled to be on the show November 16 for an interview with Walters. A source tells Deadline that Lohan’s new flackery was dissatisfied with the direction ABC wanted to take the interview. The 20/20 stint was to promote Lohan’s upcoming Lifetime movie Liz & Dick in which she portrays Elizabeth Taylor and her stormy romance to two-time husband and co-star Richard Burton, played by Grant Bowler. Liz & Dick premieres November 25th. Meanwhile, what a Herculean task it must be to flack Lindsay Lohan.

It’s probably best just to list the ways in which conservatives were routed on gay marriage yesterday.
Maine: Question 1, which legalizes gay marriage after a 2009 vote struck it down, has been approved by a 53-47 margin.
Maryland: Question 6, which legalizes gay marriage in the state, has been approved by a 52-48 margin.
Minnesota: Amendment 1, which would have defined “traditional marriage” in the state Constitution, has failed by a 49-51 margin.
Washington: Referendum 74, which legalizes gay marriage, is leading by a 52-48 margin, and is expected to pass.
Iowa: This is the victory few people were paying attention to. Republicans worked themselves raw to take the state Senate, targeting Democratic Senate Leader Mike Gronstal in his western Iowa district. Rick Santorum made nearly weekly trips to the state to stump for Republicans. The potential prize: A new vote on gay marriage, which conservatives figured they could win. But Democrats have held the state Senate. And Justice David Wiggins, one of those who affirmed gay marriage, was retained.
New York: And this is the surprise: Democrats will take the state Senate, edging past suburban Republicans who seemed to be locked in. The National Organization for Marriage had published a three-part plan for repealing gay marriage there, starting with wins this year. They didn’t get them.
I’m at a loss to think of any recent rout this decisive for any issue group.

“Having been routed on the battlefield, conservatives are now guerilla fighters. We are truly a minority counterculture. And the first thing we should do is step away from politics for a while. Only a fool or a sadist will tune into Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham or Rush Limbaugh in the next few days, because in the next few days — months — they will not be telling you the truth. Because the truth has nothing to do with Republican soul searching. The truth is that America is now a leftist country. It’s Rachel Maddow and Jeremiah Wright’s country. You know that divorced fortysomething female neighbor of yours? The one who’s not half as bright as she thinks she is, and doesn’t know much about Libya or the national debt, but watches Katie Couric’s new show and just kind of didn’t like Romney because she, well, just kind of didn’t like him? America is now her country. It’s Dingbatville.â€

Ben Jacobs reports on the ‘mayhem’ outside the White House after Obama’s win.![]()

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said he is ready to compromise on taxes and budget cuts, and he’s hopeful that House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, is also set to deal following a “pleasant” Wednesday morning conversation with Boehner.
Reid called Tuesday’s election results a signal that Americans are “tired of partisan gridlock.”
“I am going to do everything in my power to be as conciliatory as possible. We want to work together,” Reid said at Weds. news conference, while warning Democrats refuse “to be pushed around.”
Reid suggested he expects Boehner, at his own news conference this afternoon, will strike a more conciliatory tone than he did in a recent assertion that House Republicans will oppose any revenue increase as part of an agreement to avert the so-called fiscal cliff of tax increases and budget cuts set to hit in January.
“He is not drawing any lines in the sand. I am not drawing any lines in the sand,” Reid said.
Reid said an agreement must include added tax revenue, and seemed to suggest Boehner was not personally ruling out that option, though he is restricted by his conference.
Reid, who also said he spoke Tuesday night with President Obama, rejected assertions that the election left Washington’s balance of power unchanged. In addition to Obama’s resounding victory, “we picked up seats in the Senate; we picked up seats in the House,” Reid said.
“That’s not the status quo.”
Reid offered little about his legislative plans, but said he planned to test calls by leading for the GOP to soften its stance on immigration with multiple votes in the next Congress on unspecified immigration reform proposals.
Reid said he expects the government will not hit the federal debt ceiling during the lame duck. And he said he hopes for a comprehensive deal addressing the fiscal cliff. “I am not for kicking the can down the road,” he said. “I think we’ve done that far too much.”
