{"id":2261,"date":"2013-03-14T14:10:21","date_gmt":"2013-03-14T18:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gabrielsnyder.com\/notes\/?p=2261"},"modified":"2013-03-14T14:10:21","modified_gmt":"2013-03-14T18:10:21","slug":"national-organization-for-marriage-believes-in-gaylord-tolerance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gabrielsnyder.com\/notes\/2013\/03\/14\/national-organization-for-marriage-believes-in-gaylord-tolerance\/","title":{"rendered":"National Organization for Marriage Believes in Gaylord Tolerance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pixel.nymag.com\/imgs\/daily\/intelligencer\/2013\/03\/14\/14-cpac.o.jpg\/a_560x375.jpg?w=525\"><\/p>\n<p>CPAC&#8217;s organizers have stirred up some controversy by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/02\/20\/goproud-cpac-2013-log-cabin-republicans_n_2728104.html\">banning the gay conservative group GOProud<\/a> from participating, in any official capacity, in this year&#8217;s festivities, which, somewhat ironically, are being held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>One group that surely doesn&#8217;t mind the decision is NOM, the National Organization for Marriage, which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnd.com\/2010\/12\/244741\/\">withdrew from CPAC in 2010<\/a> after GOProud got an invite. But while they don&#8217;t care much for gay rights, NOM is willing, at least, to tolerate Gaylord.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not awkward,&#8221; an unamused NOM spokesman told us this morning at the group&#8217;s exhibition booth when we asked about the name. &#8220;The word <i>gay<\/i> existed long before we did.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether he would have nevertheless preferred it had the nation&#8217;s most prominent gathering of conservatives taken place at the Extremely Heterosexual Convention Center, the spokesman said he&#8217;d be happy to answer any serious questions if we had them. <i>Which is not a no.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Correction: An earlier version of this post abbreviated the National Organization for Marriage as NOW.
