{"id":575,"date":"2012-06-26T00:01:17","date_gmt":"2012-06-26T04:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gabrielsnyder.com\/notes\/?p=575"},"modified":"2012-06-26T00:01:17","modified_gmt":"2012-06-26T04:01:17","slug":"insiders-say-defense-sequester-somewhat-likely-to-take-effect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gabrielsnyder.com\/notes\/2012\/06\/26\/insiders-say-defense-sequester-somewhat-likely-to-take-effect\/","title":{"rendered":"Insiders Say Defense Sequester &#8216;Somewhat Likely&#8217; to Take Effect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn-media.nationaljournal.com\/?controllerName=image&amp;action=get&amp;id=10458&amp;format=homepage_lead\"><\/p>\n<p>With no sign of compromise on Capitol Hill for a deal on the budget deficit and debt, <em>National Journal<\/em>&#8216;s National Security Insiders are hedging on whether the across-the-board defense cuts that Pentagon officials have warned would be devastating to the military&#8217;s capabilities will actually happen.<\/p>\n<p>Amid talk that members might punt a budget deal into next year, 49 percent of Insiders said the so-called sequester mandating $600 billion in cuts over the next decade is &#8220;somewhat likely&#8221; to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>Others were less sure of Congress&#8217;s capabilities&#8211;and doubted its commitment to finding a solution. &#8220;The current Congress has consistently shown an inability to perform even the most basic tasks of governing.
