He added that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153it was immaterial to the outcome\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of the U.S. team\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gold win. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153All of the drama was about the US performance, not what the Russians did or did not achieve, said Lazarus. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It did nothing to alter the suspense\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. In a conference call from London, Lazarus and NBC Research\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Alan Wurtzel sought to address the criticism that the network has received for its tape delay of the XXX Summer Olympics from London, most noticeably<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0the Opening Games on July 27. Noting time zone difference and other limitations, the\u00c2\u00a0NBC Sports boss said \u00e2\u20ac\u0153our preference is to do things live\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Lazarus added that he hopes the 2016 Olympics Opening Ceremony from Rio will be live.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0Lazarus also said that it was a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153regretful\u00e2\u20ac\u009d moment when a promo was shown <\/a>on the East Coast of Missy Franklin winning a gold medal before the race was actually broadcast in the States and the network has installed a back-up system to ensure such a mistake doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t happen again. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153We will continue to innovate our coverage\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, Lazarus noted later \u00e2\u20ac\u0153There is no way for us to show all live action in the US in primetime,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153With so many simultaneous events going on, you cannot physically show everything live\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, added the Group Chairman. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The ratings are strong and our business partners are pleased\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, said Lazarus, reiterating that NBC will break even on the Games and predicting they might even make \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a little bit of money.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d NBC are \u00e2\u20ac\u0153over delivering in all areas\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on air, online and social media, Lazarus also noted. During its first days, the London Olympics have consistently <\/a>beaten the 2008 Beijing Games in the ratings. The Olympics from the UK drawing over 35.8 million viewers on the opening weekend, making it the most watched <\/a>Summer Games opening weekend ever. Wurtzel predicted that the London Games could well end up being in the Top 5 most watched TV events ever.<\/p>\n
